ANNA SEVA

Namo Gange Trust launched “Anna Seva- a service of mankind” in the month of August, 2019 under the initiative of Health & Wellness. ‘Anna seva’ is one of the initiatives of Namo Gange Trust to feed the needy and hungry.

Hunger and poverty is not a curse, it’s an accident & we all can provide succor to feed the needy & improve their plight. During ancient day’s Anna daan, sharing food with others was the most common form of giving. To offer food to any unexpected guest was always a part of our culture.

The practice of ‘Annadaan’ was common to all the sections of society. Gradually, this tradition has lost its significance. Only to revive this tradition we have come up with the idea of Anna Seva, which will not be only to feed the hungry but it will also revive the lost faith in humanity.

How did the Idea Originate?

As a NGO, while travelling PAN India for our several initiatives, we noticed grim starving conditions in India where we encountered starved people in different regions of states of India, which were already making the headlines of news.

  • According to United Nations, 1 person dies of hunger every 4 seconds that’s 21,000 people every day.
  • Around 836 million Indians survive on less than Rs 20 per day.
  • According to UNICEF, 80 per cent of world’s stunted children live in just 14 countries including India.
  • Around 18 million primary school children attend classes hungry in our country.

In Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism & Sikhism, Anna-dana is the practice of kindliness. It can take the form of giving to an individual in sorrow, pain or need. According to historical records, Anna-dana is an ancient practice in Indian traditions, & with this vision we are tracing back to the ancient culture.

How to Execute the plan?
  • If you are willing to share some part of your food to the needy, you can contribute it through the ‘Annapatra’ (Food Bag provided by Namo Gange Trust).
  • In this campaign, the Annapatra bag will be distributed in every house of a society or a place.
  • In the end of a month any Anna-Sewak will collect the Annapatra bag from your house and you can fill the Annapatra with any amount of food you desire.

  • The people who will regularly contribute Ann-Daan till 3 months, will be certified as Anna-Daata & will get “Anna-Daata certification” through us.
  • Namo Gange Trust will provide Annapatra to every Anna-Daata if he/she wishes to continue to contribute Anna-Daan on regular basis.
